    Nearly Christmas season…

I know. I know. I seem to be in the wrong season. But I feel posting this during the hottest time of the Summer may well bring in some anticipation of the cooler weather (I hope) that is just around the corner. Here are some of my favourite pages/spreads from Care December 2021. I used an old book and just randomly added art journal in between. I did not tear out pages for this one, just thought of going with the flow and see where this leads me. This post is actually way overdue with a lot of things happening. Nevertheless, it is good to go back and look at…

    Join the Adventure!

The team of Teachers for Wanderlust 2023 has been announced, and I am thrilled to tell you that I am one of the guest teachers!!! Having been a Wanderlust student myself, the year-long courses are truly nourishing for the soul and help me get unstuck with my creative practice. The teacher line up for 2023 is as amazing as the past years. They each bring a unique technique, idea, approach and process to art journaling. These are just some of my art journal pages from 2021 and 2022 Wanderlust classes. It’s literally an adventure! If you have not done Wanderlust before, Wanderlust 2023 is 55 mixed-media lessons, all downloadable and…

    #the100shanghaivignettes Part 2

The second quarterly update to my #the100dayproject is here after a long delay. In between my last post, we have come out of lockdown, gone back to work, searched for apartments, packed and moved to new apartment, unpacked and settled. It has been a whirlwind of 3 months and my art practise has also been focused on art journaling and other creative pursuits that sketching has taken a backseat. There were some sketching events organized by Drawing Shanghai since lockdown was lifted however it has been a bit difficult to balance going out and other priorities. PLUS (and I am not making any excuse here), the heatwave that has descended…

    Lost & Found July

Early this year, Shilpa (@nagaonkarshilpa on IG) asked me if I would like to do a collab with her and of course, I say “YES!” Coming up with the challenge was the easy part. The tricky part was the timing especially with lockdown in Shanghai that last 2 months and moving apartment. Finally we came up with our date. Just excited to be on this journey with her as I’ve always been a fan of Shilpa’s style and colours. What is this challenge about, you wonder? It’s all about finding a new use for things we have around the house. Shilpa and I believe in reusing, repurposing, and giving items…

    Retrospect: Messy May 2022

May came and went. In between being in lockdown, trying to stay positive amidst everything and trying to find recipes to match what I had available, cleaning the apartment and work… well it was all happening all at once. This challenge from Get Messy was probably one that made the days a bit better, it was something I looked forward to playing in my art journals. And I even got to take some process videos! So what I used is this small (I think around A6) size old journal/diary. It is dated 2017 but have not thrown it out because I thought maybe I can do something with it since…

    Project Life 2021

Not sure how many scrapbookers out there who still do Project Life but over the years, my experience with this project has been mixed… It has been rewarding big time and at times, draining. These past few years, I’ve stopped buying or subscribing to kits because I feel the key is to: Use what I have on hand Focus more on the stories and document it Importantly lessen the consumerism aspect Anyways, the #shanghailockdown2022 has certainly given me time to finish up this 2021 album. This is a 6×8 album compared to the 9×12 that I have had the past few years (I do have 12×12 in the beginning). After…

    [May ’22] Around here…

May came and went like a blur, between the dullness of our days, to creating some sort of routine to not spiraling mentally… basically a cacophony of emotions and ups and downs. We have been given some more food rations from the government ranging from toiletries, condiments to veggies and meat. There were still constant testing between antigen test kits and the PCR tests. An excuse to go out, rain or shine, but also too much of a hassle, trying to spray/disinfect where we went. Have been baking a lot since there’s no way to buy bread. And with shortage in yeast, had to jump into the sourdough starter adventure.…

    #SketchbookSanctuary

Sketchbook all filled up! I started the this class during my trip to Taipei, Taiwan, late last year. This was a really good class especially when I spent a lot of days in hotel quarantine. I continued filling up pages when I was in hotel quarantine again in Shanghai. And now, I finished as we are surpassing the 1-month point of this whole lockdown. For this project, I was excited to find out I can order on Tools to Liveby and they could deliver to the quarantine hotel. So I ordered the Midori Spiral Ring Notebook B6 (watercolor paper) along with a couple other stationery. The paper was just thick…

    [April ’22] Around here…

Spring time in Shanghai is looking so different this time. Varying forms of lockdowns are going on around the city as the local government tries to find ways to curb the rising number of COVID-19 infections from Omicron. We have also done several nucleic acid testing within our apartment compound as well as antigen tests. Kids have gone to virtual learning and are past the 1-month mark now. My office have switched to working from home almost the same time as my kids did as a precaution. Fortunately, we did so at the right time because some colleagues were on swift action lockdowns. I cannot help but look back and…

    GetMessy 2022 Seasons: Part 1

Art journaling has been filling up my time these days that a lot of my other projects have been on hold a bit longer than I had planned. Just thought I’d share some of the Get Messy art journal pages I’ve been working on and these has been quite uplifting and fun. First up are my pages for the Season of Courage. Here are my pages for the Season of Enough. And then finally, the March season. Get Messy is more than just art journaling. It is a community of artists who support each other. And it is a fantastic community to belong to. Check out the Get Messy website.…
