Exciting news to share! During the time I was in quarantine in Taipei back in October, I received an email from Get Messy inviting me to be invited as a guest teacher for 2022. OMG! I decided to say “YES!” My class will air in November and it is perfect for Season of Slow. So truly humbled to be part of this community again after having gone off for a few years. As you can see below, all these amazing artists who are part of this year’s line up are all AMAZING! Get Messy is more than just art journaling. It is a community of artists who support each other.…

Almost 6 weeks spent in quarantine has come and gone. And I can say, “I survived!” Here’s a sort of breakdown of the days: Day 1 – arriving in Taipei, Taiwan Day 2 counts as first of the 14-day quarantine in Taipei Day 16-17 – time spent getting COVID tests to be able to return to Shanghai plus errands and meeting with family and friends Day 18 – arriving in Shanghai, China and first day of quarantine Day 32 – left quarantine hotel to quarantine at home Day 40 – finished quarantine and back at work For the first part of my quarantine in Taipei, Taiwan, all went smoothly. The…

With only a couple months left before Christmas, I thought I’d it would be good to look back at the junk journal pages/spreads I did on-&-off via the hashtag #junkjournalingthru2021. This is almost like a 100-day project but runs all through the year. Reflecting on what I’ve learned: My “style” seems to be evolving and it’s to do with the type of journal I am working on. I enjoyed playing on blank pages when I used TN notebook inserts I “struggled” when I transitioned to using journals that I have stitched and bound together using various papers. I don’t know whether it is because of the existing content already on…

For 2020’s #100dayproject, I did a project together with @craftymue based on @aliedwards The Art of Noticing. When Ali posted on Instagram about this concept and the kits that she was introducing, there was a lightbulb moment for both Lea and me and we talked about how this could be a good project for the #the100dayproject. So when the start date of the project rolled around, we went into this project together as a way to support each other, to show up and to give each other a boost to finish the project. So in my Instagram Highlights and IGTV, I have posted all my process videos and pages for…

Over a month since the COVID-19 virus made China stand still, we are still taking precautions and even with almost zero new cases, although now the new cases are from overseas. Shanghai has started to have some normalcy and right now feeling a lot of gratitude that we can experience Spring even if it is not like the way it used to be. These days have been different, not just in China but I’m sure everyone else in the world. My kids have been e-learning since the beginning of February and so grateful how the school put these all together in such a short time. But 2 months of e-learning,…

Halfway and somehow I feel like it’s only been not long ago when I started this project… To be honest, all this play has been addicting. I keep getting distracted from doing other stuff and instead just want to keep cutting up papers and painting backgrounds. Acrylics are not easy for me to use as I’ve always been a watercolour fan since my university days, but on this creative journey, it gave me a chance to learn how to tweak it to my needs. So here’s a look at the second quarter of pages… Thank you for reading. SaveSave SaveSave

Somehow this project has got me all wrapped up in a good way; I cannot seem to stop once I get started… Just the notion of playing with paper and paint somehow is kind of calming. Everything has been all done intuitively, nothing planned, just whatever I have on hand and what I feel inspired to cut and paste and paint together onto the pages. Thank you for reading. SaveSave

We are 22 days in since the start of #the100dayproject this year. In my mind, what I had planned is easy, but got a bit sidetracked with work and now still playing a bit of catch-up. So I thought I’d start this year’s blogpost series with a bit of background. I knew for this year’s project, I wanted to get my hands dirty with paint and glue and play with collages of collected bits and pieces. A bit of art journaling and license to just go and express whatever creative ideas I have. Inspiration stems from these amazing artists: Julie Hamilton, Katie Licht, Molly Anthony and my good friend Vanessa Oliver-Lloyd,…
